Is Obama Exploiting Poland to Instigate a Crisis?

Barack Obama should take a break from Sunday siestas, defending desert turtles, and scarfing plates of $300 “endangered bluefin tuna” sushi. Then, maybe he’d have the time to shed some light on the rationale behind promising ex-KGB intelligence officer Vladimir Putin that after the 2012 election he’d “have more flexibility” in his future dealings with Russia.

Hadn’t Obama already kowtowed to Russian pressure concerning missile defense in Eastern Europe? At the time, Putin called Obama’s disloyalty to Poland “correct and brave,” while former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney called the decision “a gift” to Russia, who Romney later referred to as “our No. 1 geopolitical foe.”

Now, as Pectoralis Major Putin exhibits yet another show of strength by engaging in military exercises on the Ukrainian border, the Pentagon’s press secretary, Rear Adm. John Kirby, announces that an initial contingent (as in, more to follow) of 600 ground troops will flex America’s muscles at Russia by conducting military exercises of their own in Eastern Europe.

All was well when Obama dropped missile defense in Poland and told Dmitry Medvedev that after the 2012 election he’d “have more flexibility.” But things began to go south after Obama, looking somewhat like a wuss on the world stage, attempted to compensate by being big and butch at the G8 Summit in Ireland. Toughening his stance, Obama strong-armed Putin by claiming first dibs on the hotel gym. That workout standoff could be what led a steamed Putin to embark on an icy early morning swim in Lough Erne River to plot his revenge.

After that, in another exhibition of boundless hubris, America’s first gay president attempted to give Putin a figurative noogie by sending a delegation of homosexuals to the gay-unfriendly Sochi Olympic Games in Russia.  That provocative move may have been what incited Putin to bestow on former Russian figure skater Irina Rodnina, the woman who tweeted a racist picture of the first lady and the president, the honor of lighting the Olympic torch.

At this juncture what’s clear is that the Russian president has zero respect for his American adversary.  Meanwhile, Barack Obama has proven to be so weak and infantile, it’s as if Putin is amusing himself by shooting at Obama’s feet to make him hop around doing a ‘bullet dance.’

Unfortunately for the rest of the world, as the juvenile tit-for-tat continues the stakes have become much higher, and now instead of gym space and gay rights, peace and World War III hang in the balance. Which raises the question: Why all of a sudden is Obama displaying concern for Eastern Europe’s welfare and taking a defensive stance against Russia? 

Well, according to the Rear Admiral, deploying troops is a “very tangible representation of our commitment to our security obligations in Europe, and the message is to the people of those countries and to the alliance that we do take it seriously.” 

Aren’t “the people of those countries” the very allies Obama betrayed when he gave Pootie-Poot Putin a perverted thrill by abandoning missile defense? Rear Admiral Kirby continued, “And I think if there’s a message to Moscow, it is the same exact message – that we take our obligations very, very seriously on the continent of Europe.”

That message is quite different from the one Mr. Flexibility sent Russia in 2010 when, eight months after shelving missile defense he insulted the Republic of Poland a second time by golfing instead of attending President Lech Kaczynski’s funeral after Kaczynski, his wife, and dozens of Polish government officials were killed in a foggy plane crash in Smolensk, Russia.

Let’s face it, if it raises money for the DNC Barack Obama would probably be willing to be lowered into a molten sulfur pit. Yet Obama says he missed the Polish president’s funeral because a scary volcano in Iceland was spewing volcanic ash. Barry’s Eyjafjallajökull apology must have tickled the funny bone of Vlad, who for sport dodges icebergs while swimming in the Siberian River.

But what makes no sense is that after repeatedly insulting Poland, supposedly because of concerns over “security obligations in Europe,” Barack Obama – via the Pentagon – is now willing to disregard the danger of potentially ramping up a conflict with Russia that some say could bring the world to the brink of nuclear war.

Based on the turn of events, and although it’s pure speculation, one can only surmise that Obama’s Eastern European defense is based on something other than worries about the safety of Eastern Europeans. In the end, “fundamentally transforming the United States of America” is the only obligation Cloward and Piven’s star pupil Barack Obama has ever really been committed to.

Think about it – thus far, the list of accomplishments Mr. Obama can take credit for include the ruination of the U.S. economy, cutting a swathe through America’s job market, and initiating the undoing of the greatest healthcare system in the world.  In addition, after occupying the office of president for six years, with his approval approximately seven million unborn babies have been aborted at the rate of about 3,000 per day.

Obama’s open-borders policy has inundated our country with criminal illegal aliens who are given preference over American citizens. Our nation’s allies are insulted, our enemies emboldened, and, as witnessed in Benghazi, radical Islam is revitalized. 

The national debt has been run up to unheard-of levels, the hardworking are punished with high taxes, Christians are persona non grata, the First Amendment is in shreds and the Second Amendment is dangerously close to the shredder as well.  And because Barack Obama has systematically decimated the U.S. military and diminished America’s nuclear arsenal, any sane person would agree that now is not the best time to tempt fate with military altercations.

But military unpreparedness matters little, because Barack Obama has already proven that if it puts a cherry on top of his ‘fundamental transformation’ sundae, he would gladly tweak an international crisis.  And if pissing off Vladimir Putin by feigning concern for Eastern Europe accomplishes that goal, then so be it.

Ignorance and Incompetence Supersedes Hope and Change

Recently at the White House Barack Obama solemnly draped Medals of Freedom around the necks of an aging rock star in sunglasses, a Democrat astronaut, a United Farm Worker/chair of the Democratic Socialists of America, and a liberal poet who had written him a letter that praised his “keen intelligence, integrity and a rare authenticity,” as well as his “creative imagination which [when] coupled with brilliance equals wisdom.”

It was during that Medal of Freedom ceremony that Barack Obama, while posthumously honoring Georgetown University professor Jan Karski, a Catholic hero of the Polish resistance against Nazi occupiers in World War II, got so befuddled that he once again managed to insult Poland.

With the way Barack Obama is racking up Polish insults, America’s Nobel Peace Prize winner seems determined to offend, forsake, and above all, misrepresent the history of one of America’s long-time allies.

It started when the President went golfing instead of attending the state funeral of President Lech Kaczynski and then blamed his absence on Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull. Soon after, the President decided to sign a treaty with Poland’s archenemy Russia to remove missile shields from – you guessed it – Poland and the Czech Republic.

That slight was followed by Obama’s refusal to present the late Jan Karski’s medal to Soviet Union-defying/Polish Solidarity leader Lech Walesa. Both Jan Karski and Lech Walesa, whom the White House laughably deemed too “political,” shared a “burning desire to rid Poland of tyrannical subjugation.” Therefore, it made sense that Walesa should attend in Karski’s stead, but “President Obama said no.” Notorious grudge-holder Barack Obama probably barred Walesa from the White House because in 2010 Walesa warned that under the President’s policies the United States was “moving toward socialism.”

Barack Obama then topped off all those affronts by calling the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camps “Polish Death Camps.”

Recently, in the midst of rebutting what he claims is “Republican bigotry,” the President informed a group of conservative Jewish leaders that his commitment to the Jewish state of Israel should not be questioned because “all his friends in Chicago were Jewish.”

Still, if Barack Obama wants the Jewish community to believe he’s an authority on Judaism, maybe next time before taking to the podium he should at least know the nationality of the proprietors of the concentration camps where millions of Jewish souls lost their lives.

After boasting that some of his best friends are in fact Jewish, Obama implied that he knows more about the religion than any other president because he gained his knowledge from reading.  What the President failed to mention was whether his favorite Jewish author was Elie Wiesel, the author of Night, or his half-brother Mark Okoth Obama Ndesandjo,whose mother Ruth was Jewish and whose father was a notorious Kenyan atheist with the Muslim name of Barack Obama Sr..

If the President is serious about how he acquired his Jewish expertise, then attending kosher chicken and rendered-poultry-fat barbeques in Chicago and reading The Big Jewish Book for Jews may be all he felt he needed to make him an authority on the subject, which makes one wonder how a man so entrenched in all things Jewish could place “Polish” instead of “Nazi” in front of the words “death camp?”

Nonetheless, at least for the next 158 days, President “Choomwagon” remains front and center on the national stage.  In the meantime, if Barack Obama can’t navigate his way around the “57 states” — give or take — of the nation he leads, how can anyone expect him to keep straight whether Auschwitz was run by Germans or Poles?

So, before getting all apoplectic over the President’s misrepresentation of what was going on in Poland, in the name of fairness let’s show some compassion for a man whose unreleased college transcripts might reveal failing grades in geography.

In addition, while the President may feel comfortable counseling Angela Merkel and the EU on how to boost economic growth by “easing up on fiscal austerity,” it appears that besides being shaky on Poland’s history, global citizen Barack Obama is not all that well-versed on things pertaining to Deutschland, either.

In 2009, one of Obama’s many embarrassing gaffes took place in Strasbourg, France. When referring to the political interaction in Europe being similar to the United States Senate, Obama suggested that Austrians speak “Austrian” when he said that “There’s a lot of — I don’t know what the term in Austrian, [is for] wheeling and dealing.”

Note to Obama: there is no term in Austrian for “Machenschaften” because the language of Austria is German, which proves that unless Barack Obama consumed a lot of pierogies in the past and was trained in the fine art of German Slap Dancing, he can’t possibly be as knowledgeable about Poland and Germany as he is about Judaism, thanks all his Jewish buddies in Chicago.

So with very few friends in Poland and given his European geographical and language deficiencies, it should be no shock that as Obama lauded Jan Karski with heartfelt affection he included a jaw-dropping reference that Poles found extremely offensive when he said:

Jan served as a courier for the Polish resistance during the darkest days of World War II. Before one trip across enemy lines, resistance fighters told him that Jews were being murdered on a massive scale, and smuggled him into the Warsaw Ghetto and a Polish death camp to see for himself.

In response to Obama’s “death camp” faux pas, Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski quickly responded by declaring that the White House “will apologize” for Obama’s “outrageous” statement (which thus far they have failed to do). Sikorski also lamented the fact that the “Hope and Change” President’s Medal of Freedom ceremony was eclipsed by “ignorance and incompetence,” which was probably not the 2012 campaign slogan Barack Obama had hoped would catch on.

In 2009 President Obama subjected the nation to 52 addresses, 158 interviews, 42 news conferences, 23 town hall meetings and used the teleprompter 178 times. Oddly, the master of speechifying says more by saying nothing then if every utterance that ever passed Obama’s lips was pooled into one unending communiqué.

There is great power in the non-verbal message.  Obama inaudibly comports himself with a haughty composure and his implicit actions impact far beyond the spoken word.The most insightful messages Barack has expressed to America have been conveyed, not by way of rhetoric, but rather through silence.

Take for instance Obama wordlessly bowing to despots and dictators and doing so while snubbing America’s greatest ally, Israel.  The President even allowed the soles of his shoes to be photographed while conversing with Bibi Netanyahu on the phone.

In Muslim culture “to have the sole of the shoe directed toward one is pretty much the equivalent of someone in our culture giving you the finger.” For an individual so preoccupied with advancing the understanding of Muslim mores, is it possible Barack was unacquainted with the insulting message the soles of shoes convey?

During the Pledge of Allegiance, Barack failed to place his hand over his heart an action excused as innocent oversight.  Yet as time goes by the message behind the President’s voiceless actions are being verified by policies that unfortunately prove initial discernment was not a misunderstanding on the part of Obama critics.

Another example was Barack’s wordless message, on none other than the 70th anniversary of the Russian invasion of Poland, reversing U.S. commitment to situate a missile defense system on Polish soil.  A message that was tacitly potent.

This year Obama sent another nonverbal missive to defenseless Poland one sated with subliminal significance. On the day of President Lech Kaczynski’s funeral Obama saw fit to go golfing. Citing flight hazards caused by the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland, Obama unable to travel to Poland, chose to pay homage to Tiger Woods instead, and did so while President Kaczynski was being eulogized in Krakow.

Some world leaders were also unable to attend, others found alternate means of travel.  Barack, rather than visiting, paying respects, and signing the sympathy book at the Polish Embassy in Washington DC, decided to solemnly commemorate the death of a world leader by shooting a few rounds of golf. Focused like a laser on the 18th hole, Barack did not allow his birdie to be distracted by how blatant irreverence might “tee off” the world community.

French President Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel also were unable to attend the funeral. However, Sarkozy did not express condolences while toweling off after a tennis match, nor did Chancellor Merkel commiserate from International Dance Week in Dresden.

Wrongheaded Obama didn’t glean a thing from his predecessor George W. Bush.  Understanding the impact symbolism carries, the former president gave up golf “in solidarity” with the families of soldiers who were dying in Iraq. Bush’s sacrifice of golf was a decision made because GW, didn’t “want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf.” Bush said “I feel I owe it to the families to be as – to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.”

Excuse me Mr. Bush do you mean “sends the wrong signal,”similar to the  type of signal the leader of the free world sends by choosing to play golf, while the president of Poland is laid to rest-that kind of wrong signal?

Unfortunate Coincidence – American Thinker – April 12, 2010

“I don’t think it was done intentionally. I excluded such a possibility, but it was an unfortunate coincidence, yes.” Those haunting words were spoken by “lifelong skeptic of Russia” Lech Kaczynski, the late president of Poland. Kaczynski discussed with Brett Baier of Fox News the unusual concurrence of President Obama reversing the Bush administration’s U.S. Patriot missile defense decision on the 70thanniversary of Russia invading Poland.

In 2008, the United States and Poland sealed a deal that in 2010, ten interceptor missiles would be deployed to a military base near the Baltic coast. The missiles were due to be situated in that location to “protect much of NATO against possible long-range attacks,” mostly from a volatile Middle East. According to then-U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the weaponry was “defensive and aimed at no-one” and merely a means to respond to “the threats of the 21st century.”

The agreement between the U.S. and Poland infuriated Russia. At the time, deputy chief of general staff General Anatoly Nogovitsyn said the plans for a missile base in Poland, “could not go unpunished.”

At the time, the Polish president expressed the logical view that because the shield was purely defensive and not a threat, “for that reason, no-one who had good intentions toward [Poland] and toward the Western world should be afraid of it.”

Recently, the anti-communist, conservative Polish President Lech Kaczynski and an entourage of dignitaries, including his wife Maria, were en route to Russia to pay homage to 22,000 Polish military and intellectual elite massacred in the Katyn Woods in 1940 by the Soviet Union. Eerily, Kaczynski’s plane, carrying 88 members of Poland’s political, military, church, and business leaders, went down in the same wooded area in the Smolensk region of western Russia, killing everyone on board.

President Kaczynski admitted, after suffering a scare on a Tupolev 154 Soviet-designed plane in 2008, “Any flight brings with it a certain risk, but a very serious risk attaches to the responsibilities of a president, because it is necessary to fly constantly.” And so, in December of 2009, Kaczynski had Russia’s Aviakor aviation maintenance company fully overhaul the plane, deeming the aircraft “airworthy.”

There is no denying that flying from Poland to Russia in a Russian-maintained airplane and then crashing into the woods where Soviet secret police murdered 22,000 Poles can be described only as an “unfortunate coincidence,” especially after being warned that something you did “could not go unpunished.”

This isn’t the first time Poles experienced such a shocking loss. Seventy years ago, after the Soviets denied involvement for the Katyn bloodbath and blamed the Nazis for the slaughter, then-Prime Minister Wladyslaw Sikorski “called for an independent investigation” into the massacre. Four months later, Sikorski and sixteen others suffered an untimely end, perishing in a plane crash in Gibraltar. Another unfortunate coincidence.

Last week in Prague, Barack Obama signed a nuclear disarmament treaty with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, and he probably believes that the decision transformed the world into a safer place, deeming extensive missile defense passé. Medvedev called the treaty “a truly historic event.”

The initial U-turn on the decision to place a missile defense system in Poland initiated cooperation between Medvedev and Obama, which was followed up with an agreement to cut strategic nuclear arsenals by 30 percent. As spurned Lech Kaczynski watched from afar, Medvedev expressed the belief that the treaty “opened a new page” in Russian-American relations.

Obama, having signed the treaty with Russia, accomplished what Brett Baier intimated to Kaczynski two years prior to be a foreign policy goal for the newly minted president.

During the 2008 interview, Baier told Kaczynski, “The Obama administration … wants to reset its relationship with Russia.” Pressing the Polish president, Brett asked, “Are you worried about this reset and how it will affect your country? Do you think Russia was emboldened by the [defense reversal] decision?”

Exquisitely aware of Poland’s long, dark history with Russia, Kaczynski did not hesitate to respond, “Russia is always bold, but if it’s encouraged, then it becomes even bolder.”

Lech Kaczynski lived just long enough to see America break faith with Poland and then sign a treaty with a nation that expressed hostility and aggression toward Poland — very possibly revitalizing an aggressive adversary.

The Polish president articulated in the 2008 Fox News interview the belief that “[t]he United States … [has] a right to conduct [their] own policy, and there is nothing I can say about this and cannot question it. But the United States, like any other country in the world, can be right or can be wrong.”

Baier retorted, “Is it wrong?” Kaczynski cautiously replied, “So far we don’t know it yet. Russia can play a big constructive role in the world because it is a big country. But, however, the development in Russia at the moment does not give any indication that this is how it will continue, that this will be so.”

In 2008, Kaczynski worked hard to sign an agreement with the United States for a missile defense system to be placed on Polish soil. The agreement was met with a warning from Russia that Poland would be disciplined. In 2009, President Obama reversed the Bush administration’s U.S. Patriot missile defense decision on the 70th anniversary of Russia invading Poland. In December of that same year, Lech’s Russian-made Tupolev 154 received an overhaul and thumbs-up Russian approval.

In 2010, President Obama signed a “historic” nuclear disarmament treaty with Russia. Less than three days later, in an effort to take a step toward improved relations with Russia, the Polish President died in a fiery crash in the Russian-maintained Tupolev 154 en route to a memorial commemorating the Soviet massacre of 22,000 Poles in the Katyn woods — one fortuitous incident after another.

Hearkening back to the words of deceased President Kaczynski, who said, “I don’t think it was done intentionally” — one can’t help but marvel at the observable facts surrounding Russia’s involvement in Poland’s history of “unfortunate coincidence[s],” yes?

Bandaging the Bruised Bear

Every baby boomer remembers the 1964 Goldwater campaign ad, which juxtaposed innocent children, pledging allegiance to the flag, with an impassioned Nikita Khrushchev waving his finger in the air vowing, “We will bury you…your children will be Communists!”  Khrushchev’s warning was the impetus for American teachers to hustle students into hallways instructing them to close their eyes or go blind from the blue flash.  The reality of the “Cold War” made anxious, impressionable children shiver at the sound of civil defense warnings with the delayed announcement “This is a test,” leaving a few horror-struck seconds to wonder if “duck and cover” was in order.

Reagan had a hawkish stance, intense understanding of evil, unmatched diplomatic skill and an insightful ability to understand the devastating effect rigid, centralized governmental had in fostering Russia’s economic troubles.  That, coupled with the Soviet Union’s obsessive-compulsive desire to build an immense military machine to support a dictatorial regime, was the disastrous combination that shook the foundation of an oppressive system.  Reagan accurately assessed that if he engaged the economically strapped Soviet Union in an arms race there was no way they could prevail and total collapse followed.

Presently, the “sick Russian bear” is being reconstituted into the “evil empire” Reagan worked hard to eradicate. Barack Obama seems ignorant to the fact that,” Putin is, first and last, a Russian nationalist, utterly pragmatic (or ruthless) in the tools he will use to strengthen the Russian state…and is slowly and systematically changing Russia’s direction. When Russia changes direction, the rest of Europe should indeed be nervous.”

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is currently in the process of accomplishing this goal with the help of American President Obama.  Rather than staring down the Bear like Reagan did at Reykjavik by rejecting missile defense conditions, Obama acquiesced to demands and shelved U.S. plans to position nuclear-missile shields in the Poland and the Czech Republic to protect Eastern Europe and U.S. interests from the Iranian nuclear threat. According to Glyn Davies, U.S. Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran is moving; “…closer to a dangerous and destabilizing possible breakout capacity,” which is the reason the Bush Administration initiated plans for a missile defense system in the first place.  Russia disagrees, and is fiercely defensive of Iran. Obama, unlike Bush, is obviously unaware that a Persian cat and a wounded bear would make short work of a mollifying dove.

Obama’s anemic argument for dropping the plans at Russia’s behest for the controversial missile defense shield program is that presently, Iran is not a threat. His Administration contends  “They have no potential at this moment; they have no capacity to launch a missile at the United States of America.”  This is a position that exhibits a shocking lack of foresight, especially from those who vigorously criticized the Bush Administration for failing to strengthen the New Orleans levees in order to avoid impending catastrophe.

Obama failed to flinch when Russia welcomed the news of the U.S.’s agreement to dispose of missile defense in Eastern Europe by saying, “…it saw no reason to offer concessions in return.” His immature conviction that the United States should participate in, “…constructive, honest engagement with Iran to resolve the issue” of nuclear proliferation in hopes that Tehran will, “take immediate steps to restore international trust and confidence,” is as naïve and misguided as his assurance of Medvedev’s liberal, pro-Western stand.

President Reagan was acutely in touch with the moral duty to protect this nation. Unlike Reagan, Barack Obama, seemingly void of a moral core, would have willingly submitted to Gorbachev’s demands if it were he and not Reagan attending the Summit in Iceland. Giving in to a “…Third World nation with First World nuclear weapons” is Barack Obama nursing Reagan’s “sick bear” back to health.

Dmitry Medvedev said, “Russia’s democracy is weak, its economy is ailing and the country faces long-term problems with the health of its population.” Ronald Reagan touted America’s strength and superiority, recognized and exploited to the world’s benefit the immorality and incompetence of Soviet Communism. Obama, on the other hand, chides the U.S. at every turn and lauds the former Soviet Union as a “great power, vowing that while crafting U.S. policy he’ll, “…keep Russia’s interests in mind.” An astonishing statement from an American president giving Khrushchev’s prophesies chilling potential for fulfillment.

Appeasing sentiments that shelving the missile defense system will encourage the Russian bear to extend an olive branch is tantamount to national security psychosis. Obama is deluded if he thinks our future with Russia “…has to be more than just security or dismantling weapons.” If America refuses to deal with the Soviet mindset, in the same manner, as Ronald Reagan deemed crucial, we might as well crawl back under our school desks and anticipate a flash of blue light.
